Assistant Scoutmaster Roles
These are the troop Assistant Scoutmaster Assignments.  While the Scoutmaster is not listed on any specific committee or team, he will serve as a member on all for input and information.  The Scoutmaster is responsible fo the overall Troop 49 program and success.

Overall Program John Brown  
  • Works to ensure that the troops overall program and cycle is in place

  • This person is not responsible for picking/choosing/developing the program, just that we are on cycle

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Troop Meeting Mark Chapman  
  • Works to ensure that the Tuesday Night program is in place

  • This person is not responsible for picking/choosing/developing the program, just that we have one

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Camping Program Tim Shaw Barry Douthitt
  • Works to ensure that all camping trips are planned, organized, and have a program

  • This person is not responsible for picking/choosing/developing the program, just that we have one

  • He is responsible for documenting the program and publishing the plan a minimum of 1-month prior

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Transportation & Permit Bill Hyland  
  • Works to ensure that all trips have the proper permits required

  • Works to ensure that the troop has proper transportation

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Equipment Scott Bingler  
  • Works to ensure that the troop is properly equipped for all activities

  • Serves as advisor tot he Troop Quartermaster

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Advancement Jeanna Hyland  
  • Works to ensure that all troop advancement is obtained properly and consistent with troop policies

  • Serves as the advisor to the Troop Advancement Scribe

  • Works with both youth and adult leaders to schedule boards of review

  • Ensures that all advancement is registered with the council

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to ensure that advancement is earned properly

Attendance Barry Douthitt  
  • Works to ensure that the troop attendance policies are followed

  • Serves as the advisor tot he Troop Attendance Scribe

  • Publishes monthly reports for scouts to check

  • Reports the annual "Top Scouts"

  • Brings attendance issues to the troop leaders

  • Works to ensure the attendance program is properly implemented and recorded

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

New Scout Program Tim Shaw Jeff Worboys/Barry Douthitt
  • Works as the advisor to the Troop Guides and the New Scout Patrol (Eagle Patrol)

  • Works to ensure the smooth transition from the Cub Scout Program into the Troop Program

  • Works to conduct the basic scout skill training required to assimilate into the troop and to advance to Tenderfoot

  • Works to follow and improve the "New Scout Program" at Troop 49

  • Works to ensure the New Scouts are assimilated into the regular patrols by the end of the summer

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Webelos Coordinator Jon Cottrill Barry Douthitt
  • Works as the troop liaison between the Webelos Scout Program and the Troop

  • Works to ensure that all Webelos are properly transitioned into the Troop

  • Works to ensure that all Webelos registrations are in order

  • Works throughout the Cub Scout Year to encourage Cub Scouts to become Boy Scouts

  • Works throughout the year to ensure that the Cub Program receive the support from the Troop

  • Works closely with the New Scout Program ASM

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Religious Richard Rindone Willy Rooker
  • Works to ensure that Troop 49 maintains it's focus to "Duty to God"

  • Serves as the advisor to the troop Chaplains Aid

  • Works with Chaplains Aid to ensure that religious services are planned and performed on all camping trips

  • Works with Chaplains Aid to ensure that prayers are given at each meal and activity

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Newsletter/Information Jeff Worboys  
  • Works to ensure that Troop 49 has a regularly published newsletter to keep parents and friends informed

  • Works to get out special information when the need arises such as changes in a camping trip or activity

  • Works with all leaders and committee personnel to accomplish this

Website Barry Douthitt Tim Shaw
  • Works to keep the troop website current and up-to-date

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to gather inputs to accomplish this

Eagle Service Project Raymond Coulter Tim O'Rourke
  • Works to review and ensure that all Eagle Service Project Applications are completed to Troop 49 standards

  • Works with the youth to ensure that the project is completed as described

  • Works with youth to develop the final Eagle Service Notebook and Eagle Application

  • Works with all other adult leaders to gather information and data for the completion of the Eagle Application

Training John Brown  
  • Works to train selected scouts to be trainers / instructors

  • Works to ensure that program areas have the proper training capabilities and training material

  • Works to ensure that training performed is done to both teach and have fun

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Order of the Arrow Mark Chapman Barry Douthitt
  • Works as the advisor tot he OA Troop Representative

  • Works to ensure that Troop 49 is informed of all activities and events that our OA members can participate

  • Works to ensure that the OA Troop Rep and the OA is kept in the troop program plans

  • Collect yearly dues with proper forms and turn in to the scout office

  • Formulate roster of all troop OA members, including membership status, ordeal, brotherhood, vigil, including dates of induction

  • Collect fees and coordinate all event registrations with the scout office

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Service & Special Events David McIntyre  
  • Works as the advisor to the Troop Service Coordinator

  • Works to ensure that the troop is informed and proper recruitment is performed to accomplish service projects

  • Works to keep the troop and parents informed as to these activities

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

Summer Camp Mark Chapman David McIntyre
  • Works to promote the Summer Camp experience

  • Works to ensure that Summer Camp is incorporated into the Troop program plan

  • Works to get the youth registered and money collected

  • Works to get the youth signed up for Merit Badges in a timely manner with the council

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish this

High Adventure Tim O'Rourke  
  • Works to ensure that the troop program includes some form of 'High Adventure" program

  • Works with all adult leaders to develop a strategy for the high adventure program

  • Works to ensure that each high adventure as a recognized adult trip leader or leaders

Trip Leader    
  • Works to organize the trip including agenda, travel plans, program plans, etc.

  • Develops a financial plan for the trip (if required)

  • Collects funds and ensures bills are paid for the trip

  • Works with all troop youth and adult leaders to accomplish successful trip

  • Works to ensure that the Adult leaders in the troop have the required training according to the planned program

  • Works with all adult leaders to maintain a database of the training classes taken, certifications, and expiration dates

  • Notifies leaders when certifications are about to expire

  • Schedules training classes when necessary
